Mekhala Krishnamurthy

Mekhala Krishnamurthy is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Anthropology at Ashoka University and Senior Fellow at the Centre for Policy Research (CPR). She is an ethnographer of the state and economy in contemporary India and has researched and published extensively in the fields of health and agriculture, especially on India's agricultural markets, their regional diversity, institutional complexity, regulatory life, and social and political dynamics. Her cross-sectoral interest centres on the people of the state and the everyday life of public institutions and systems. Over the last five years, she has built and directed CPR's State Capacity Initiative, a cross-disciplinary research and practice programme, which seeks to deepen and expand the understanding of the challenges and possibilities of building state capacity in democratic and federal India.
