Federal Cuts Cost New Yorkers Jobs and Critical Financial Resources

A new, interactive map, developed by Cornell University ILR School, with support from the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, details the loss of billions of dollars of federal funding to New York State.

The Cornell University ILR would like to invite you to a press conference on 10/28 @10am at the Burchfield Penney Art Center in Buffalo, NY that will share a new, interactive map detailing the impact of federal cuts to each county and congressional district across the state. The funding cuts to New York State include loss of money to veterans, pensions, job training, social security disability, and unemployment insurance; and in the first quarter of 2025 alone, NY lost almost a quarter of a million jobs.

The purpose of this tool is to educate the public on what is to come and to help policymakers develop strategies to alleviate negative impacts on local communities. The statewide cuts and impact of recent federal economic policies can be broken down by county and congressional district.

Dr. Rusty Weaver, Director of Research, Cornell ILR Buffalo office, will provide a live demonstration of the interactive map and several WNY community members will share local impact relative to the federal cuts, at an event on 10/28 at 10am at the Burchfield Penney Art Center; the event is free and open to the public.
