As strategic leaders, human resource business partners (HRBPs) help their organizations answer business-critical (even existential) questions. HRBPs need access to all levels of an organization, from high-level strategy to operationalized tactics. They lead organizational design and culture, and lead change and transformation. However, the demands of the role often make it difficult for HRBPs to focus on their own development — and unlike other specialized HR areas, they rarely have access to robust peer communities.

Over the past year, we have collaborated with senior HRBPs, CHROs and business leaders from CAHRS' partner companies to design the World-Class HRBP Framework. This comprehensive model defines the key elements of the HRBP role and sets a clear standard for what "great" looks like. Built to address the realities of a rapidly changing workplace, the framework provides practical guidance to help HRBPs elevate their influence, drive strategic outcomes and lead with confidence.

CAHRSCast | CAHRS World-Class HRBP Framework: Talent and Leadership Capabilities

HR business partners (HRBPs), a large and critically important segment of the HR population, serve on the frontlines of helping companies navigate the future of work, yet often lack development resources and peer communities common in specialized HR areas. To address this gap, Cornell's Center for Advanced Human Resource Studies (CAHRS) has collaborated with senior HRBPs, chief HR officers, and business leaders across partner companies to develop the World-Class HRBP Framework, defining key elements of the role and setting standards for excellence.
