Upcoming Webinar—Power and People: Working Conditions in the Texas Clean Energy Transition

The Cornell ILR School's Climate Jobs Institute, in collaboration with the Texas Climate Jobs Project, Texas AFL-CIO, and Organized Power In Numbers, will host a webinar on Wednesday, September 18th, at 2pm ET, to discuss findings from the newly released report “Power and People: Working Conditions in the Texas Clean Energy Transition.”

The study uncovers the working conditions of over 1,200 solar, wind, and clean energy manufacturing workers in Texas, which is leading the nation in clean energy deployment.

What we found is concerning:

⚠️ 7% of solar workers reported witnessing a fatality on the job site.
⚠️ 1 in 4 workers have experienced work-related injuries.
⚠️ Almost half of workers have suffered heat-related illnesses.
⚠️ 70% lack access to workers' compensation.
⚠️ 71% lack retirement benefits.
⚠️ 47% are without health insurance.

This webinar will explore how strong labor standards are essential to ensuring that workers see their interests reflected in these critical emerging industries and to building the political support needed to accelerate the clean energy transition.
