Cunningham Facilitates LI Laborers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA) Training

On Tuesday, April 13th, Cornell's Labor Leading on Climate Initiative delivered its latest “Climate Jobs and Offshore Wind (OSW)” training in partnership with Climate Jobs NY, the NYS Laborers Union, and the Long Island Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO.

Worker Institute’s Extension Associate, Zach Cunningham, worked with local partners to deliver the training for nearly 30 members from Locals 66 and 1298 of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA). Participants met in person at the Local 66 union hall – socially distanced and wearing masks – as Cunningham facilitated virtually via Zoom.

This training equips unionists with the knowledge and confidence needed to engage in public debates and decision-making on climate change, clean energy, and offshore wind. Through small group discussion, individual reflection, and lectures, participants wrestle with tough questions and strategize how to create a green economy that centers working families and creates quality, union jobs. To date, over 100 union members from across New York State have participated.

Over the next several months, the Labor Leading on Climate team, in collaboration with Climate Jobs NY and NYS’s labor community, will roll out this training to union locals throughout New York.
