On May 21, 2025, the AFL-CIO/Cornell University Labor Leadership Institute proudly celebrated the graduation of its 2024–2025 class. The event honored 28 accomplished leaders representing a wide range of sectors, industries, and worker justice organizations across New York State.

The graduates gathered at the Cornell Club in New York City for an afternoon of reflection, connection, and meaningful conversations about the future of labor. Together, they explored the evolving challenges and opportunities facing labor leaders in today’s dynamic landscape.

The ceremony featured a keynote address by ULI alumna Janella Hinds, Vice President for Academic High Schools at the United Federation of Teachers and Secretary-Treasurer of the New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO. Hinds shared her experiences in labor leadership and offered powerful insights into the importance of equity, advocacy, and perseverance.

Dean of Outreach Ariel Avgar extended warm congratulations to the graduates, commending their dedication to strengthening worker rights and supporting New York’s working families.

The celebration concluded with remarks from class speaker Alvin Carter, Security Coordinator for SEIU 32BJ, who emphasized the critical role of unity and collaboration in confronting today’s labor challenges.

Congratulations to the 2024–2025 class of the Labor Leadership Institute for their commitment, passion, and vision for the future of the labor movement.
