Overview
Workplace discrimination, harassment and gender violence continue to be issues of concern to workers in New York State and across U.S. workplaces. Workers who report sexual or gender violence in the workplace continue to face significant consequences for their well-being and their careers. The way workers experience the impact of these phenomena is often shaped by their economic and workplace position, as well as by their race/ethnicity, immigration status, gender identity, sexual orientation, and other facets of identity. Given the negative impact of these forms of violence on worker well-being, productivity, and advancement, how should unions and workplaces address and prevent such actions, thereby contributing to the discourse on social change?
This webinar, offered by the Cornell ILR School's Worker Institute, presents an analysis of the results of the New York State 2024 Empire State Poll concerning the workplace impacts of sexual harassment and intimate partner violence. A panel of legal, safety and health, union and community experts will discuss workplace consequences of gender-based harassment, violence and bullying and innovative approaches in education, organizing, advocacy and local legislative strategies, with a particular focus on the role unions, allies and advocates can play in providing essential resources, support, and otherwise taking action.
