The 2022 High Road Fellowship Application has Launched
Since 2009, over 230 Cornell undergraduates have participated in the High Road Fellowship.
The Cornell ILR Buffalo Co-Lab is pleased to announce High Road Fellowship Program has launched the Summer 2022 Application.
The High Road Summer Fellowship is a competitive summer opportunity open to Cornell undergraduates (Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors) interested in grassroots democracy and how individuals can create a more equitable economy. Fellows are in Buffalo for eight weeks, June 6th through July 29th, and earn a living wage for 300 hours over the course of the summer.
Each student is placed with a host organization affiliated with the Partnership for the Public Good (PPG), a community-based think tank made up of over 320 community partners promoting more equitable and sustainable economic development in Western New York. Students gain hands-on experiences working with organizations in the vital nonprofit sector of the economy where job creation, neighborhood revitalization, affordable housing and the greening of the economy are everyday reality. These are the 2022 High Road Fellowship Placement Options. They range from mapping vacant houses, to creating informational videos about clearing criminal records, from publishing reports on community voices, to creating websites, to attending mediations. In addition to the individual projects, students hear from High Road alumni, participate in team and skill-building sessions, and learn from labor leaders, worker cooperatives, climate and criminal justice activists, experts on racial justice, policy makers, state legislators and more
Each fellow works on their unique individual project through their host organization Monday through Thursday. They participate in group programming on Fridays consisting of workshops, panel discussions with guest experts and civic leaders, and tours around the city. On Tuesdays, Fellows hear from High Road Alumni and on Wednesdays they are provided with skill-building opportunities (Arc GIS, Project Management, Canva, etc.). Students are required to take a one-credit pre-course “Community-Controlled Development: The Case for Buffalo, NY” prior to their time in WNY.
Applications for Summer 2022 will open November 2, 2021 and close February 18, 2022. An application, resume, and transcript are required. This fellowship is run through the ILR School but is open to non-ILR students. Affordable group housing, in a vibrant neighborhood in Buffalo, is facilitated for every High Road Fellow with access to public transportation, bike share, and/or a secure parking lot for a personal automobile.
If you need your application to be considered on a rolling basis, if you have any additional questions, or would like to schedule a time to chat, please email the High Road Program Coordinator, Kricky Ksiazek, ks844@cornell.edu.
