Speech Team Wins Division at Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament
From March 15th to 18th, the Cornell Speech Team competed at the Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament in Westchester, PA. This comprehensive tournament welcomes teams from across the United States to compete in both speech and debate events. The Cornell Team was highly successful, and Cornell finished as the Individual Entry National Champion for the Mid-Size Entry category.
In individual speech events, Senior and Captain Sydney Browne was the National Runner Up in Dramatic Interpretation. Captain Margot Treadwell was National Runner Up in Communication Analysis. And Asha Prabhat was National Champion in Interviewing and finished 4th in Persuasion and 5th in After Dinner Speaking. Among multiple other out round appearances, special congratulations go to Freshmen Chinaza Politis and Hannah Quigley for reaching quarterfinals in Communication Analysis and Informative Speaking respectively. Multiple other students received distinctions of excellence for placing in the top 30%, including novices Ian Gilenson and Aidan Helfant.
In debate, Hannah and Sydney were recognized as Novice National Champions in Parliamentary Debate.
The team is preparing for the American Forensic Association National Speech Tournament in April.
