Scheinman Conflict Resolution Club Returns for 2025-2026 Academic Year

The Scheinman Conflict Resolution Club (SCRC) has officially begun its activities for the current academic year. This year’s executive board includes President Sam Garner, Vice President Clyde Lederman, Director of Outreach Sean Sung and Treasurer Caitlin Fox.

On September 18th, the SCRC held a meeting focused on the spectrum of alternative dispute resolution forms and techniques, led by Sean Sung and Clyde Lederman. The meeting began with introductions from Professor Ariel Avgar, Associate Director of the Scheinman Institute and Club Advisor and Liz Davis-Frost, a Mediation and Training Associate who co-leads Scheinman’s Campus Mediation Practicum with Katrina Nobles, Scheinman Institute Director of Conflict Programs.

Avgar and Frost provided information on the history and work of the Scheinman Institute, and Avgar spoke about his research into organizational level conflict management practices and systems.

Following the guest speakers, Lederman and Sung presented an overview of different conflict resolution strategies, ranging in structure from open dialogue to formal litigation. Club members then shared examples of conflict from their own lives and determined where their dispute resolution methods fell along the continuum.

This year, the SCRC hopes to participate in mediation and arbitration scrimmages, in which club members compete against other schools and are trained and evaluated by experienced professionals in the field. The SCRC looks forward to continued educational events with ILR faculty and alumni, which provides members with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of conflict resolution through both academic and professional settings.
