Story

Housed in the Cornell ILR School and building on work that began in the 1960s, the K. Lisa Yang and Hock E. Tan Institute on Employment and Disability conducts a unique combination of research and outreach. With a mission of advancing the inclusion and full participation of people with disabilities in the workplace and community, our research, training, and technical resources expand knowledge about disability inclusion, leading to meaningful change.

The YTI Process

YTI cultivates a unique combination of research and outreach. Our research provides the science to move communities forward around disability inclusion, and our outreach communicates that information to create meaningful change in areas such as community life, education, training, and work.

YTI is unique due to its combination of researchers, instructors, and other professionals in the disability field – along with designers and web developers – who focus on the meaningful inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of life. We provide the science to move communities forward around disability inclusion.

Our Process

A Commitment to Collaboration

YTI has helped companies, labor organizations, government agencies, schools, communities, and practioners throughout New York state, the US, and abroad to accommodate and integrate individuals with disabilities. Our team consults with business and industry, and with policymakers, educators, disability advocates, and rehabilitation practitioners.

We help make possible the full participation of people with disabilities in the workplace, the community, and society.
