American Capitalism "MOOC"
ILR Associate Professor Louis Hyman and Associate Professor Ed Baptist of Cornell's Department of History will launch "American Capitalism: A History" in a "MOOC" format this semester.
It will be one of Cornell's first tuition-free massive open online courses—otherwise referred to as MOOCs. Three others will also be launched this semester.
"American Capitalism" will cover:
- Work (slavery, wage labor)
- Business (entrepreneurship, the corporation)
- Consumption (retail, shopping)
- Finance (markets, institutions, power)
"American Capitalism: A History" begins March 17. MOOCs are open to the public; individuals can audit Cornell MOOCs offered this semester without commitment and still access lectures, assignments and tests.
