Dissertation Honored
Ozias Moore M.S. ’13/Ph.D. ’16 has won the top graduate student scholarship given by the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
The $3,500 award recognizes graduate career achievement and is intended to assist doctoral students in the industrial and organizational psychology field with the costs of dissertation work.
A doctoral candidate in ILR’s Department of Human Resource Studies, Moore’s major research and teaching interests focus on team and multi-team effectiveness.
Particularly interested in examining teams as multi-tasking units, Moore is devoting his dissertation to the effects of multiple team membership on project team processes and outcomes.
“Now more than ever, teams are expected to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and juggle a variety of tasks under time pressure and dynamic conditions.”
“In spite of this common practice, though, our empirical understanding is limited on how these multiple simultaneous collaborations influence performance,” Moore said.
To address the gap, he is testing positive and negative effects of multiple team membership -- defined as individuals assigned to work concurrently on multiple teams -- on team processes and outcomes.
The Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology will present the scholarship in April in Anaheim, Calif.
