Governor Appoints Scheinman

Martin F. Scheinman '75, MS '76 has been appointed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to the Cornell Board of Trustees.

The New York State Senate unanimously confirmed the nomination this summer. Three of the board's seats are appointed by the governor as a mandate of Cornell's charter. Cornell is a land grant university that receives support from the state.

Scheinman, a trustee from 2009 to 2011, will serve through June 2015.

"I'm thrilled to return to the board," he said in an interview . "My time on the board made me realize how much the board does in setting goals for the university."

"Being able to serve with an extraordinarily distinguished group of people, all of whom deeply love this university, as do I, is an honor," Scheinman said.

In his career as an arbitrator, Scheinman has conducted more than 10,000 arbitrations and 5,000 mediations across the country in both private and public sector industries.

Scheinman, recipient of ILR's 2006 Groat Award for achievement and service to the school, has been a member of the ILR Advisory Council since 2003. He received a lifetime appointment as a Cornell Presidential Councillor in 2012.

The ILR institute which promotes interdisciplinary education, research and training in dispute resolution was endowed in 2007 by Scheinman and his wife, Laurie Scheinman.

The Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution serves students, academics, neutrals and practitioners.
