Labor Awards

Three ILR faculty and one alumna will receive annual Labor and Employment Relations Association (LERA) awards at the association’s 67th annual meeting.

Cornell Interim Provost Harry Katz, former ILR dean, Associate Professor Adam Seth Litwin, Assistant Professor Rachel Aleks and Tashlin Lakhani Ph.D. ‘14, will be recognized for academic work in the labor field.

The winners will be part of the conference’s ILR presence, which includes 46 presenters from Cornell, including 11 ILR alumni. The event takes place in Pittsburgh from May 28 to May 31.

Awards

  • Katz will receive the Susan C. Eaton Award for distinction as a scholar and practitioner.
  • Litwin will receive the John T. Dunlop Distinguished Scholar Award, recognizing the best contribution to research that addresses an industrial relations/employment problem of national significance.
  • Aleks and alumna Tashlin Lakhani, an Ohio State University professor, are co-winners of the Thomas A. Kochan and Stephen R. Sleigh Best Dissertation Award.

LERA is the singular organization in the country where professionals interested in all aspects of labor and employment relations network to share ideas and learn about new developments, issues, and practices in the field.

The LERA 67th Annual Meeting is expected to draw over 500 U.S. and international business and union practitioners, attorneys, arbitrators, facilitators and mediators from the private and public sectors. This labor-management conference will feature speakers from labor, management, government and academia, providing insights into the best bargaining practices in today’s challenging labor-management climate.
