Pursuing Excellence

The Cornell HR Review, based at ILR, invites Cornell undergraduate and graduate students to compete in its annual essay contest. All entries are due Tuesday.

More than $1,500 in prizes will be awarded. Competitors write an 800- to 1,600-word entry in response to one of three human resources-related essay prompts. This year’s prompts address issues such as contractor utilization, labor relations and human resources brand equity.

Entries undergo two rounds of judging. The first round is judged by staff of the Cornell HR Review and the second is judged by an independent panel representing key stakeholders -- students, academics and human resources professionals.

This year's final round judges include 2010 competition winner Nathan Sheranian MILR '11, ILR Professor Lisa Nishii and Cornell Vice President of Human Resources Mary Opperman.

Opperman will also deliver the keynote speech at the competition's awards ceremony at 7 p.m. March 15 in the Doherty Lounge, 281 Ives Hall. The Cornell community is invited to attend.

Jonathan DeGraff MBA/MILR '12, president and founder of the Cornell HR Review, said, "The competition bonds our undergraduate and graduate student bodies in pursuit of HR excellence, and its fruits are enjoyed by an international audience. Last year's winning entries garnered attention from HR news outlets across the globe, and we're aiming to make this year's competition even bigger."
