Research Award
Assistant Professor Rebecca Kolins Givan will receive the Labor and Employment Relations Association's John T. Dunlop Outstanding Scholar Award for research contributions.
The presentation will be made in Chicago as part of the organization's annual meeting Jan. 5-8.
The award was based on Givan's research, said Morris Kleiner, awards committee chair, in three areas: reform of health care in the United Kingdom, public sector unions and the future of unions.
"The committee also was impressed with her work on general issues of political economy," he said. Kleiner is the AFL-CIO chair of labor policy and professor at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
Annually, the association gives two Dunlop awards "to recognize outstanding academic contributions to research by recent entrants to the field."
Givan's award was made for her research contribution to international and comparative labor and employment research.
An assistant professor at ILR since 2005, Givan received her doctorate in political science from Northwestern University in 2004 and a bachelor's degree from Oberlin College in 1997.
Before joining ILR, Givan held positions at Cardiff Business School and the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics, where she continues as a research associate.
Her areas of expertise include collective bargaining, health care and its restructuring, industrial relations systems, international and comparative workplaces studies, the welfare state, and unions.
