Three ILR Professors Promoted
The Cornell Board of Trustees has granted promotion with tenure to a trio of ILR professors. Alexander Colvin, Ph.D. '99, ILR’s Kenneth F. Kahn '69 Dean and the Martin F. Scheinman '75, 'MS '76, Professor of Conflict Resolution, has announced.
JR Keller (Human Resource Studies), John McCarthy (Labor Relations, Law, and History) and Ben Rissing (Organizational Behavior) came to ILR as assistant professors in 2015.
“JR, John and Ben have made excellent research, teaching, and service contributions,” Colvin said. “Receiving tenure is a major milestone in an academic career and the product of much hard work and effort.”
Keller’s research focuses on understanding how firms make hiring decisions and individuals make career choices, with a particular interest in how the dynamics shape how employees change jobs within firms.
Undertaken in the context of U.S. public schools, McCarthy’s research focuses on how empowering workplace institutions, including labor-management partnerships, affect outcomes such as employee well-being, turnover and performance.
Rissing studies employment-relevant decisions in organizations, including businesses, government, and academic institutions. His research contributes to the sociology, management, and industrial relations literatures.
The promotions go into effect July 1.
