Udochi Onwubiko
Udochi Onwubiko joined Dēmos as Director of Economic Justice in September. She comes to Dēmos with a decade of experience in economic justice policy. Most recently, she served in the Biden-Harris Administration as Labor Policy Advisor in the Office of the Vice President of the United States and as Senior Policy Advisor in the Wage and Hour Division at the U.S. Department of Labor. In these roles, she supported implementation of federal employment laws and developed campaigns to empower vulnerable workers to exercise their rights. Before working in the Administration, Udochi served as Labor Policy Counsel for the U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor. There, she developed policies to support economic security for workers, including provisions of the nation’s first paid leave law, which provided paid sick leave and childcare leave to millions of workers during the height of the pandemic. She also pushed to center racial equity in economic security policymaking, including spearheading a historic congressional hearing on the legacy of the racist exclusion of Black workers in federal wage laws. https://www.demos.org/bio/udochi-onwubiko Udochi graduated from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and holds a M.A. in Media and Strategic Communication from George Washington University and a B.B.A. in Marketing from the University of Mississippi. |
