Nell
Nell Abernathy is Acting Director of the Office of Policy and Strategic Planning at the Commerce Department. She previously worked on supply chain policy at the National Economic Council. Prior to joining the Biden Administration, Nell was the Policy Director for Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo. Nell spent seven years at the Roosevelt Institute where she led the policy and research team for the think tank and coauthored “Rewriting the Rules of the American Economy” with Joseph Stiglitz. Nell has worked on political campaigns and in government for President Barack Obama, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and Los Angeles City Councilwoman Wendy Greuel. In addition, she worked as an economics reporter in emerging markets, including China, Nigeria, Ghana, and Abu Dhabi. She holds an MA in International Finance and Economic Policy from Columbia University, and a BA from Brown University. Follow her @nellabernathy.
